Nicknames for Fortune Global Forum volunteers unveiledNicknames for Guangzhou Fortune Global Forum 2017 have been unveiled on November 19, 2017, with Xiaoqingsui (小青穗) and Xiaomanyao (小蛮腰)standing out as winners.  The online poll, launched by “Guangzhou Youth” (“广州青年”) on November 7 to invite citizens to suggest nicknames for the event's volunteers, got active responses from the public, receiving nearly 1,000 suggestions within a week. The media group selected ten of the best suggestions and put them to a vote. By noon of November 19, 34,888 netizens had cast their votes online for their favorite nicknames, among which Xiaoqingsui and Xiaomanyao topped the scores with 12,334 (35 percent) and 12,312 (35 percent) votes respectively. After much review and discussion, the organizers decided to respect the poll results and chose Xiaoqingsui for male volunteers and Xiaomanyao for females. Piqiu, who created the name Xiaoqingsui, explained that qing (青) refers to both the energetic young volunteers and the color of their uniform, while sui (穗) has long been an abbreviated name for Guangzhou. Also, sui sounds similar to another Chinese character随 (sui), indicating volunteers are always ready to help. In addition, the character 穗 (sui) also represents dedication. The creator of Xiaomanyao, Tuantuan, believed that Xiaomanyao is also the local nickname for the Canton Tower, landmark of the forum’s host city and even the inspiration for the design of female volunteers’ uniform. The forum's volunteers also aired their views on the nicknames.  Wu Su from Bangladesh said sui is the abbreviated name for Guangzhou and Xiaomanyao is the nickname of Canton Tower. He feels as though he has become a spokesman for this energetic city when he puts on the volunteer uniform. The two names match the volunteers perfectly. Zhou Junjie, another volunteer, said he voted for Xiaoqingsui straight away after the voting started. He liked the name because it represents the energetic spirit of the young generation. Volunteer Liang Xiaojun expressed that she would feel very proud to serve the city as if she were a walking landmark of Guangzhou.
